What a year we had here in Castle Rock in 2019, with plenty more before Year End!
*Zonta Club of Douglas County always welcomes new members. For more information, please contact our Membership Chair, Judy Crenshaw at 303-688-9107. Beginning in January, our club of approximately 20 dedicated women will continue to meet at 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm the first Monday of each month (adjusted for holidays) at the Anthology West Clubhouse, 18012 Keyser Creek Rd, Parker, CO 80134. Meeting fee $25.
*Our club sponsored a booth at the annual Starlighting Festival in downtown Castle Rock, November 23. Look for our lighted window display (referenced below) in the Town Square! This community-wide event signifies the beginning of the Holiday Season, while several thousand people peruse booths hosted by businesses and non-profits who gladly hand out small gifts and information. Of course, Santa Clause makes an appearance and the afternoon culminates with the lighting of the huge star on the ‘castle rock’ in Rock Park . . . and who doesn’t love fireworks! We are proud to participate in this community event.
*During the year one of our focuses has been to celebrate Zonta’s 100th Anniversary. On November 8, the actual anniversary date, Zonta Club of Douglas County joined all other Zonta Clubs globally in a common action to “light up the night against child marriage.” Past President, Janell Will spearheaded an art project in our downtown Castle Rock public display which drew attention to Zonta International’s biennium projects.
*Early November, eight club members prepared food and served a light meal to 55 children participating in First United Methodist Church’s after-school SOCK program.
*In October, thirteen Zontians and Friends of Zonta (FOZ) joined an existing tour in Greece that spanned ten days and many archeological wonders. We raised almost $4500 for our Foundation and are excited to plan a follow-up trip, probably in the fall of 2021. Join us?!!
*In late September, club members Janell Will, Julie Browning, Debbie Schultz, and Marilyn Harding traveled to Billings, MT to participate in a joint meeting of all clubs within District 12. It was truly inspiring and educational to learn more about ZI’s strategic financial partnership with UNICEF and other programs. Zonta’s new “Women In Technology” fellowship is another exciting development.
*Backing up further in the year, our club participated in community service by volunteering at the Douglas County Fair in August, and the annual Elephant Rock Bike event in June.
*In April of 2019, we held our 15th Annual Trivia Fundraiser where we raised funds to support Zonta’s Rose Scholarship Fund and also awarded scholarships to local students attending Arapahoe Community College.
