2013 Young Women in Public Affairs Award Recipient Named
Audra Herman, Canon City High School student, was named the recipient of the 2013 Zonta Club of the Royal Gorge Region Young Women in Public Affairs Award.
The goal of the Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public affairs by recognizing a young woman’s (age 16-19) commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
Ms. Audra Herman was named Zonta Club of the Royal Gorge Region Young Women in Public Affairs recipient because of her school leadership and local volunteer work. Ms. Herman intends to pursue herr education in political science. Audra believes it is important to reach out to girls and women in the community to help raise their status in society.
The Zonta Club of Royal Gorge works to provide scholarships to women in Fremont County. The Club provide a $1000 scholarship annually to a non-traditional woman college student and a $300 award for the Young Women in Public Affairs Award to a local high school student. The annual Artful Women Exhibition and the Royal Gorge Artist Challenge each fall are some of their fund raising events.
Zonta International, with world headquarters in Oak Brook, IL, USA, is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women. The Young Women in Public Affairs Award is one of many programs for women and girls sponsored by Zonta International. The Award is funded by voluntary contributions to the Zonta International Foundation. Applications for the 2012 Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Award will be available from zonta.org in Fall 2013. Applicants must be pre-university or pre-college students (age 16-19).
