Why should you become a member?

Women and girls have made great strides throughout the past century. Yet many difficult and critical issues continue to create barriers to full equality. As we begin this new millennium: 70% of the world’s 1.3 billion absolute poor are women; 2/3 of the illiterate adults in the world are women; 2/3 of the children not in school are girls; 60 million women who would be alive today are “missing” because of violence associated with gender discrimination; women comprise 48% of the workforce, yet less than 5% hold senior management positions and only 10% hold seats in the world’s parliaments; every month of every year, over 40,000 women in developing nations die from pregnancy related causes.

Is Zonta for You?

The first thing you need to do is decide that a service club is for you. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you have a sincere desire to help others in the community?
  • Would you enjoy planning events that meet the civic, social, and educational needs of the community?
  • Can you spare two hours a month for regular meetings?
  • Can you dedicate approximately 2-6 hours a month to participate in local service projects?
  • Do you enjoy meeting other women and working together to achieve a common goal?

Membership

To ensure professional diversity within each Zonta Club, membership is by invitation only. You must be able to answer yes to the following questions to be considered for membership.

  • I am a business executive or professional, actively engaged or have experience in a business or profession in a decision making capacity.
  • I am willing to commit time to service and advocacy projects in my community.
  • I am willing to contribute financially to and raise money for local and
  • international projects that benefit women.
