Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships

Women have made great strides in the pursuit of education, careers and leadership roles they were once denied; however, today, women are still more likely to be pouring the coffee in global boardrooms than sitting on the boards. The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship program helps women pursue undergraduate and master’s degrees in business management and overcome gender barriers from the classroom to the boardroom. Since the program’s inception, Zonta has awarded 441 scholarships to women from 50 countries.

Established in 1998 from a generous bequest by Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York, the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship is awarded annually to women pursuing undergraduate or Master’s degrees in business-related fields.

Late winter, if not sooner, is the time to begin work on the selection of your club’s Jane M. Klausman Scholarship recipient. Please see the two attachments that will guide you through this process for your club as well as providing information for submitting to District 12:

Several District 12 clubs award JMK scholarships (a money award from the club is desirable but not necessary), and club winners will be entered to win one scholarship totaling $1,500 awarded at the district level ($500 from District 12 and $1,000 from Zonta International) and one of 12 international scholarships in the amount of $7,000 each. The scholarships may be used for tuition, books, or living expenses at any university, college, or institution offering accredited business courses and degrees.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the JMK Coordinator, whose name and contact information are in the District directory

Zonta International is awarding over $480,000/year on these scholar-/fellow- ships. District 12 chips in with $1,000/year (for YWPA & JMK combined) from the District Scholarship Fund. Currently not all District 12 Clubs participate in these scholarship programs. District 12 Zonta Clubs are encouraged to appoint a Club Scholarship Committee, whose members can approach school officials directly in their own community or in nearby areas where there are no Zonta Clubs. If a Club receives an inquiry but does not participate in these scholarship programs, it should refer the applicant to a nearby club that does. Let’s enable students from the communities within District 12 to be in the running for these awards, scholarships, & fellowships, and let’s get the word out about these great Zonta programs.
