Women in Technology Scholarship
Scholarship Description:
The world economy, industry and sciences are becoming increasingly digitized, and these developments are disrupting society and familiar social processes. Women, however, are still largely underrepresented in information technology and other STEM fields. To create a world in which men and women have equal opportunities, women need to have an active role in technology and technological developments. Zonta International is pleased to offer its new Zonta International Women in Technology Scholarship to encourage women to pursue education, career opportunities and leadership roles in technology.

Background Document:

Eligibility:
Women pursuing an information technology (IT) degree or closely related program, who demonstrate outstanding potential in the field, are eligible to apply.
Women not enrolled in a university are also eligible as long as they submit:

  • Evidence of completed trainings and outstanding performance.
  • Description of current job with information about path that led to that job.
  • Employer confirmation and recommendation or client testimonial supported by evidence.
  • Reason for applying and description of desired career.
  • Evidence of educational project plan (e.g. proof of course opportunities).

Golden Z club members may apply.

Classified members and employees of Zonta International and Zonta International Foundation, and their family members, are not eligible to apply.

Application Process:
The Women in Technology Scholarship program operates at the club, district and international levels of Zonta International. Please note that applicants may not apply to more than one Zonta district and must be nominated by a local Zonta club. Applications selected by Zonta clubs are sent to their district. The district selects one applicant to submit to Zonta International. The Zonta International Women in Technology Scholarship Committee selects six international recipients from the district/region applicants.

Applications will be available soon.

Deadlines:

  • Club Deadline: Determined by each Zonta club
  • District Deadline: August 1, 2019
  • International Deadline: October 1, 2019

Funding:
For the launch of this pilot program, the Zonta International Foundation will award up to $112,000 in scholarships: 32 district/region scholarships of $2,000 each and six international scholarships of $8,000 each.

The Women in Technology Scholarship is a pilot program made possible through generous donations to the Zonta International Foundation.

Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships

Women have made great strides in the pursuit of education, careers and leadership roles they were once denied; however, today, women are still more likely to be pouring the coffee in global boardrooms than sitting on the boards. The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship program helps women pursue undergraduate and master’s degrees in business management and overcome gender barriers from the classroom to the boardroom. Since the program’s inception, Zonta has awarded 527 scholarships to women from 56 countries.

Established in 1998 from a generous bequest by Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York, the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship is awarded annually to women pursuing undergraduate or Master’s degrees in business-related fields.

Late winter, if not sooner, is the time to begin work on the selection of your club’s Jane M. Klausman Scholarship recipient. Please see the two attachments that will guide you through this process for your club as well as providing information for submitting to District 12:

Several District 12 clubs award JMK scholarships (a money award from the club is desirable but not necessary), and club winners will be entered to win one scholarship totaling $2,500 awarded at the district level ($500 from District 12 and $2,000 from Zonta International) and one of 6 international scholarships in the amount of $8,000 each. The scholarships may be used for tuition, books, or living expenses at any university, college, or institution offering accredited business courses and degrees.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the JMK Coordinator, whose name and contact information are in the District directory

Currently not all District 12 Clubs participate in these scholarship programs. District 12 Zonta Clubs are encouraged to appoint a Club Scholarship Committee, whose members can approach school officials directly in their own community or in nearby areas where there are no Zonta Clubs. If a Club receives an inquiry but does not participate in these scholarship programs, it should refer the applicant to a nearby club that does. Let’s enable students from the communities within District 12 to be in the running for these awards, scholarships, & fellowships, and let’s get the word out about these great Zonta programs.
